Wordnik Google Talk Bot
You can now access the Wordnik features over GTalk or any other XMPP client. Let us use the example of GTalk over here. Just follow the steps given below to Wordnik + GTalk nirvana.
- Fire up GTalk. Click on Add a contact as shown below:
- Enter wordnikpower@appspot.com as your friend
- Next, in GTalk, search for wordnikpower Agent by typing a few words, you will find the agent name there and with an invitation that it wants to add you as a friend. Please click Yes.
- Now that the Wordnik Power Agent is your good friend, you can interact with him. Type help to list down the commands that the Agent can follow. A sample run is shown below:
- You can get the definition for any word by typing define:{word}. For e.g. define:dictionary or define:engine. A sample screenshot is shown below:
- You can get related words by typing related:{word}. A sample screenshot is shown below:
- You can get examples for a word by typing examples:{word}. A sample screenshot is shown below:
- You can get Word of the Day by typing wotd. A sample screenshot is shown below:
- You can get a Random word by typing random. A sample screenshot is shown below:
- A cool feature in case you are a teacher is to send a list of words along with the their definitions as an email to your students. The format is : send:{comma separated wordlist}:{comma separated emaillist}. This will send an individual email to your studens with all the word definitions that you mentioned. This way they can get class notes for revision. A sample screenshot is shown below:
